Although it seems life has come to a halt during these difficult times, there has never been a better window to dedicate hours to your community. Many of the volunteering opportunities students are familiar with are in person, however there are many online as well. Here are 3 ways to volunteer during quarantine.

1.     Tutor Students Online

School was already a lot to handle in person, online may be even more of a challenge. Some students may take great joy in helping others succeed in virtual school. There are many websites with opportunities where you can help other students, one of them being schoolonwheels.org. On schoolonwheels.org students ages 16-18 can provide tutoring services to students in need. However, the opportunities don’t end there, students ages 12-15 may also volunteer as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Quarantine may start to feel much better when you realize how much time you have to dedicate to bettering not just yourself but others too.

2.     Keeping the Elderly Company

The elderly in our community are struggling with social isolation as they are quarantined from family and friends for the sake of their health. There are many ways in which you can help these seniors keep their spirits up. Some options are writing them a letter, sending an uplifting video, or best of all reaching out to them personally and engaging in a phone call. Through familyeldercare.org, or many other websites you can find ways to help seniors near you.

3.     Thanking the Brave

There are many jobs in our world that we should salute for their bravery. In the past, the first occupation one would think of is military service, however in the last couple months first responders have reached an equal level of commitment to their country. It is important to remind all of these individuals how much we thank them for their service to all Americans whether this be on the battle fields or in hospitals. To write letters to our heroes you can visit operationgratitude.com for further instructions.
