How to Make The Best of Your High School Experience

“High school is the best time of your life” is a phrase many high school students hear, but how many truly agree? As a teenager experiencing high school, it is easy to get lost in the drama and pressures of fitting in; but we tend to forget that we are young and will never be this carefree again.

Making The Most of Your Time

Making the best of high school is all about being involved and living in the moment. Join as many clubs as possible (which also serves to figure out what you’re interested in) and attend any school events. The biggest mistake high schoolers make is feeling like they’re “too cool” to attend school functions. More than anything, these events are a great opportunity to meet new people or just hang out with friends.

Events Make a Difference

In any case, if the event is terrible, going somewhere afterwards is always a good idea. More important events, like homecoming and end-of-year-trips, are a must. That is where you make the best memories that turn into good stories to tell later on. Many students miss out on all these events their first three years of high school and only attend senior activities. Although taking part in senior events is crucial, high school lasts four years, not one. Only participating in your last year of high school is like trying to raise your GPA your senior year; stressful and a waste of three perfectly good years. Additionally, not only are school activities extremely important, but so are clubs.

Clubs and Interests

Actively participating in various clubs is a great way to find what you like and where you are most comfortable, especially if you start in 9th grade. Not only will this improve your high school experience, but it will save you time. For instance, perhaps you love theater, but never enrolled in drama club, now your passion will go undiscovered for years. Needless to say, extracurriculars also look great on a college application.

Living in The Moment

Finally, it’s important to live in the moment; high school and adolescence only happen once. It is very common for students to be too focused on getting into a good college or what people think, to actually enjoy what’s happening around them. You need to take the life out of high school, not the other way around. At the end of the day, living your life for tomorrow will only leave you unsatisfied with today.
