Auditory Learning

Defined by its approach to using sound to convey information and ideas, auditory learning is commonly used within classrooms in the form of lectures. This type of learning is helpful in that it can be listened to while doing other tasks in the form of educational podcasts. Examples of where auditory learning can be applied are within music classes where students may need to learn something by ear. What makes this type of learning effective is its ease of use. This is essential for those looking to go into a field such as broadcasting or even for public speaking as you only need your voice and an audience to listen. For those who are prefer multitasking or have an affinity with speeches, auditory learning is your go to.

Visual Learning

If you're the type of person who needs something a bit more tangible, visual learning can help with that. Visual learning uses things such as images or even words on a whiteboard to help explain concepts. A great example of visual learning would be an instructional video or tutorial on how to do something. This is helpful as it can easily break down complicated subjects with an easy to understand format. Visual learning is used in classrooms such as with a projector or even a powerpoint presentation. This type of learning is crucial as many students will need to use it to showcase their ideas in the form of collages for some courses. Given how much visual information we consume on a daily basis, it's good to offer a healthy amount of this into a lesson plan.

Kinesthetic Learning

Kinesthetic learning is perfect for those who require a hands-on style approach when it comes to education. What makes this type of learning effective is for certain subjects it can feel more intuitive. Writing classes for example need a good balance between learning from lectures as there is a lot to learn by analyzing other writers along with critiquing your own work. Kinesthetic learning can be more practical as it lets students more closely work in their area of interest. A good example of this would be for medical students who need to practice techniques on a training dummy. It's inevitable that many students will need to take action when it comes to their careers and implementing some form of kinesthetic learning can help for that.

How Do You Learn Best?

These are just some of the different types of learning out there. Ultimately students will encounter varying degrees of these learning styles throughout their academic journey. It's good to keep these in mind as they can give students the chance to seek additional educational material outside of class in a manner that works best for them.
