STEM education effectively refers to “science, technology, education, and mathematics” under a broad umbrella term. While each of these may seem different from a glance, they each offer their own unique contributions toward STEM as a whole. Each of these has an overarching theme of helping society develop through the advancement of scientific literacy. This matters as there are many careers and emerging sectors that require students from these fields to make contributions as it can help the world. Education specifically is the cornerstone behind schools which allows students to be able to learn about the things they are passionate about. Science helps us to find new innovations that we otherwise would be unable to do without the power of technology. Technology works in tandem with all of these as it can promote better ways to learn. Can it Benefit Creatives?

A common misconception with STEM fields is that it primarily focuses on logistical thinking while sacrificing the creative element. This couldn't be further from the truth. While yes the logistical component to this is very prominent, there is a healthy amount of innovation necessary in order to find new solutions to ongoing issues. The electric car for example is one such development from the STEM field that required ingenuity. The same can be said for solar panels as well with how it functions along with how these are both marketed. Creative thinking matters in many ways with STEM fields and this is also seen in the educational sector as well. Teachers need to find fun new ways to integrate technology into the classroom to help incentivize engagement. The needs of people are ever-shifting and having both logic and creativity at the forefront is one of the best ways to do this.

A Holistic Approach

A balanced approach is a great way for students to expand their knowledge while also giving room for specialization. STEM acknowledges that in order to do well, we need to allow for people of all types to be able to contribute to the field. We see this in the creative side along with the more practical nature of these fields. STEM gives us a chance to make a difference in the long-term by working on projects that demand a different mindset than that of other careers. While this is just one of many paths available, the benefits are clear and the flexibility offered can give students a stable foundation for their future.
