Keeping Your Composure

Stress can be difficult to manage at times but rather than letting it get to us, we need to learn how to work through it. One way that stress affects us is that it can make us lose our composure. Today we want to talk about how to keep our composure when we feel overwhelmed.

Slow Down

When our mind starts racing our thoughts may go so fast that it can be hard to keep up. This is natural when we're in a situation that takes us out of our comfort zone since we're not used to it. Rather than try to force ourselves to go at someone else's pace, we need to slow things down. One way to do this is by assessing the situation. If it's someone that's upset at us, we can ask them to give us some time to think. This is good because it shows that you value what you want to say along with making the space needed for the other person’s emotions. We can also step away from something that's getting to us since it allows us to meditate on it and make a better judgment. When we're stressed our mind and body may find it hard to concentrate which is all the more reason why we need to pace ourselves and slow down.

Relax Your Thoughts

Our thoughts are essential if we want to work towards positive action. Being composed allows us to see situations for what they really are. It helps us acknowledge that some things aren't as bad as we make them out to be. Our thoughts need to be in harmony to stay calm during times of stress. To do this we need to find ways to relax our minds. One way to do this is by using meditation. We can be creative with how we do this depending on what our schedule looks like. If we find ourselves walking to school, we can imagine that we're creating flowers with our every step to show that we're making a positive impact on the world. If we have some time during an outdoor class, we can take a moment to see the beautiful nature around us. If we're in a safe quiet space, we can close our eyes and focus on our breathing. All of these help us relax our thoughts so that we can make the best decision possible.

Recognize That You Will be Okay

Even in the toughest of situations, we need to recognize that we'll be okay. Learning how to keep your cool is an essential life skill since it shows that you're unfazed when things go wrong. This is helpful because it helps you feel more in control within your life which can lead to more positive action. Many things may not affect us as much as we think they do which can help us not worry as much. Being able to focus on the things in life that do matter is worth the effort, and we can only do that when we're in the right frame of mind.
