Why Learning is Fun

Learning is something that we do at every stage in our lives. The way that we learn can also change as well since most of the time we're being taught by someone else. Ideally, we want to be lifelong learners who can be self-sufficient. One of the best ways to get closer to this is by recognizing that learning can be fun. Today we want to talk about this and why it's so important.

It Opens us up to New Ideas

A great reason why learning is fun is that it opens us up to new ideas. There's a concept known as “Tabula Rasa” which revolves around the idea that the human mind starts out as a sort of blank slate. If we look at things from this perspective we can develop a newfound appreciation for learning. There's an innate desire to want to know more about the world and a great example of this is when we are young and learning a language. People have a natural tendency to want to discover more about each other and language is how we can communicate our feelings to others. Understanding how the deeper aspects of things work is rewarding since it can make us feel more confident in our skills. New ideas expand the mind and allow for many new perspectives to appreciate.

It Helps us Improve

Improvement is another area that demonstrates why learning is fun. Being able to tangibly see how far you've come is a great feeling. It can instill confidence in us by providing a sort of intrinsic motivation. This kind of motivation is extremely important because it is much more sustainable than we realize. One example of this is trying to beat a personal best for running track. There are different milestones that can feel good to reach and consistently improving and learning about new ways to get closer to your goal is fun. This also applies to other things as well. Having a balanced education is another solid way that learning can be fun. It exposes us to many different subjects which can make it easier to relate to others. Improvement brings value in many ways and being able to see that can increase your happiness.

It Teaches us to be Independent

Being independent is a great skill to have and learning guides us toward that. School is an environment where at first our learning revolves around someone else teaching us new concepts. We learn from our teachers along with our peers and family. Eventually, though, there comes a mindset shift. All of these concepts that we're learning about come together in a manner that gives us the opportunity to apply them practically within our lives. It effectively teaches us to slowly be more independent and work towards the things that we want. Learning is something that is worth our time and sometimes it can take a bit of effort to see that it is ultimately an enjoyable activity.
