Not Letting Things Get To Us

Having a stoic mindset can be one of the most helpful things as a student. It allows us to be our best possible selves without letting things affect us as much. There's a lot of merit to this since it can give us a better frame of mind while also being proactive with our goals. Today we want to talk about the value of not letting things get to you along with some easy ways to do so.

Letting Critique Empower You

Criticism and opinions are some of the most easy things that might affect us in our day-to-day lives. This can be a result of our self-esteem or simply taking things too personally. Something good to keep in mind is that opinions are just someone else's perspective on things. They might not always be rooted in reality and can simply just be a feeling someone has. Building a sense of confidence is important since we know ourselves better than we think. While there is merit in listening to critique, we want to use it in a way that allows us to empower ourselves. Not every opinion has the same amount of value and it's up to us which ones are worth listening to since sometimes they can lead to a positive difference. Being okay with who we are along with being confident in our actions can help us be more secure.

Our Locus Of Control

In life, many things are simply beyond our locus of control. Traffic, the weather, and the time of day it is are all things that are in a constant state of change. Rather than being conflicted by this, the best way to handle it is by going with the flow. We can do this by accepting that we won't always have control of things. The benefit to this is that there's less to worry about since we can dedicate our time to the things we do have agency over. This can make us more mindful about our actions because they have more of a direct effect on the results we get. Learning how to be okay with the direction life takes us as a response to our actions and the things out of control is part of a stoic mindset and essential to being okay regardless of the result.

Letting Go Provides Freedom

Something good to consider is the attachment we have to things. When we're attached to a thought or way of thinking, it can feel like an extension or reflection of who we are. The same can be said when we start to be affected by these feelings. Letting go of certain things that we're emotionally attached to can give us a sense of freedom from negative thoughts. This can be empowering because it allows us to see which of our thoughts are constructively helping us and which ones are better left being let go. Our mind can lift us up if we give it the opportunity to do so and to do that we need to be okay with moving past the things that disempower us.
