How to Persevere

Being able to persevere despite the challenges we face is important because there will be moments where we need to work through things. Finding ways to do this can help give us a step in the right direction. Today we want to talk about how to persevere and some ways to do so.

Understand What Your Goals Are

Perseverance is best used when it works in tandem with your current goal. Pushing through just for the sake of it can cause unnecessary exhaustion and leave us feeling tired without having a clear idea of why we do what we do. A good example of this involves spending extra time to get a grade you're working towards in your class. Sometimes we may need to put in more effort to hone our skills at something because it's a topic we need more practice on. This is okay as each of us is good at different things. Writing down your goals and what specifically you want to accomplish can give you a framework for what to do in your daily routine and give you a sense of clarity. Something as simple as knowing what to do can help fuel your motivation towards doing the right thing.

Take Your Health Into Account

Your health is a very important thing to keep in mind when it comes to perseverance and it's good to remember that health always comes first. Too often do many of us push ourselves to stay up later, or doing work when we're sick because we feel that we have to. This can lead to other consequences such as a slower recovery. When we feel that our goals conflict with our health is when we need to take a step back and reprioritize what it is we're doing. This sort of awareness building is essential because we need to take care of our own needs before we can accomplish our goals. Asking yourself how you feel is a good way to gauge whether or not you're in the mental realm of being able to persevere through things. If you are doing fine and your actions are working alongside your health, then that's a good metric to continue doing what you're doing. Being able to say no and take care of your health is a crucial life skill.

Know What You're Capable of

Knowing what you're capable of is one of the last major elements of perseverance. This matters because it also contributes to an overall sense of awareness for your well-being. Sometimes we might continue to do a task that stresses us for a long time and this is usually done when we aren't mindful of how it's making us feel. While there are parts of tasks that may not always be pleasant, knowing what is the extent of how much you can tolerate something is good because it teaches you your limits. A great example of this is weight lifting since if we go beyond what we're used to it can end up hurting us. Perseverance is a great quality to have since it can help us accomplish difficult tasks and it's also good to know how much we can tolerate.
