Keeping a Positive Outlook on School

Maintaining a healthy view on both school and life can be a blessing for our mental health. It's easy to be discouraged by the difficulty of tests and expectations, but school is more than just our grades. Today we want to take some time to discuss why it's important to keep a positive outlook on school.

Use Your Accomplishments as Motivation

Many of us are goal-driven and for good reason too, they can help motivate you to do better in school. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the fruits of your labor after a long day of schoolwork. The reason why our accomplishments help us keep a positive outlook is that they are a great way of measuring our progress. For example, if we take a good amount of time to sit down and study for an upcoming test, it can make us feel confident about future assignments. Receiving a good grade on a test for example can give us a confidence boost and help sustain our positivity through helpful actions. We need to be mindful of what we achieve as it can boost our happiness and well-being.

Cherish The Progress

Tying into the idea of being goal-driven, another way to keep a positive outlook is by being process-oriented. While having an end goal is good, appreciating the present moment is an equally viable approach. A good example of this could be measuring the quality of your interactions with your peers on a daily basis. This can help as it can keep track of where you stand with those you care about without needing to hit a certain goalpost. This can also tie into your studies as well. If we take time to read about a novel we've been assigned, rather than looking at it as a means to do well on a test, we can let ourselves get immersed into the fictional world and have fun while doing it. Appreciating your progress as a student is great because it helps you cherish every step of the journey. Not everything has a clear endpoint but taking the right steps to get there can make all the difference.

Respect Your Past

Part of keeping a positive outlook on school revolves around knowing when to reflect on your prior experiences. Learning new concepts is both fun and a challenging endeavor but looking back at how far we've come is just as important for our happiness. When we were younger we may have found some ideas hard to wrap our head around but now we are able to comprehend them much easier. We have learned from our mistakes and have used the knowledge gained from them to be the person we are now.

Having a positive outlook on school needs a healthy balance of looking forward to the future, cherishing the present, and respecting your growth in the past. When we are able to keep all of these in harmony, only then will we truly be able to appreciate our academic journey.
