3 Ways Feedback Can Help You as a Student

Feedback allows students to build on their work and expand their knowledge on a subject matter. It’s important for teachers to provide constructive criticism beyond just giving students an “A” or a “C”. There are many advantages of teacher’s presenting you with personal feedback; from motivating you to do better in class, to providing direction, and even improving overall classroom performance. It Can Motivate You

Feedback is a great means of motivating you to do better in class. Once you know exactly what you’re doing wrong and what areas you need to improve in, you will be more likely to meet these goals and objectives. Rather than just getting a low grade, if you receive a personal critique on what you did wrong, you’ll know what to improve for the next assignment. Feedback can also be positive; praise is a great motivator, and receiving words of praise when you do a good job is a perfect way to keep you motivated and encourage you to continue doing your best.

It Gives You Direction

Excellent feedback motivates you to perform better, but it also takes it a step further and provides you with practical ways to do that. When we don’t know what’s going on in a class or don’t understand a concept, we often feel frustrated and overwhelmed. These are the times when we most need to be steered onto the right path, and feedback provides that much needed direction. Sometimes you may find yourself stuck on how to advance toward your academic goal, taking in and considering any notes your teacher presents you with, or perhaps even your peers can help give you the clarity you need.

Understanding what your weak points are and working to assess them will help you become a better student, and maybe even a better person. We often overlook negative aspects of ourselves , so we might not notice that our sentence structure could use work, but your teacher definitely will. Your teachers are professionals and they provide a fresh set of eyes along with a new perspective can help.
