Reviewing Our Goals

Being able to set goals and follow through with them is an important part of life. Many of these provide us with something to work towards that can better improve the quality of our lives. Every now and then it's worth taking the time to review the goals we have in order to optimize them. Let's take a look at a few reasons why it's worth doing.

Figuring Out What Fulfills Us

All of us have different things that we value. Some of us might prioritize certain areas of our lives and certain interests more depending on where we are and the amount of time and resources we have. When we're setting goals it's good to ask whether or not what we're doing is providing a sense of fulfillment. Certain goals might not seem ideal in the moment which is why we need to reflect and see how each part of it is contributing to our life positively. Finishing college might be one of our goals and while we might not always have the energy at times for certain aspects of it, working towards a future career we're passionate about is its own reward.

Knowing Which Goals Are Worth Doing

Not every goal has the same amount of weight or value to it. In many cases, some goals are best dropped or changed altogether. This very much depends on several different aspects. For one we need to know whether a goal is continuously stressful or wearing on our well-being. While sometimes this is simply part of the process, we don't want to put ourselves in a situation where we're chronically stressed. How we view our goals is also good to consider. While we may really want to do something at times, we need to be aware of whether it's actually achievable where we are. Ambition is good but not if it comes at the cost of ignoring the reality of our situation. The right goal empowers us to do the right thing along with building the right habits in the process.

Adjusting Our Goals

Similar to our thoughts, some of our goals need to be adjusted in order to best work in harmony with the changes we experience. It's okay for some goals to be sidelined when we feel that we aren't able to put forth our best effort for them. Following through with what we set out to do and finding ways to motivate ourselves to do so are also part of this. It's fine to prioritize new goals if it means that it'll help us out better in the long run. The point of our goals is that they give us a means of following through with things that provide us with value. When the value doesn't align with the amount of effort we're putting in, it's okay to shift our actions in a manner that is more sustainable for ourselves.
