Why Self-Care Matters

Self-care is one of the best ways to build a lifestyle that works for you. It can function as a form of healing along with being able to help you practically get to where you want to be. Today we want to take some time to talk about why self-care matters and some mindset shifts that can help you.

Find Activities That Empower You

Empowerment is important and this holds true when it comes to self-care as well. Finding things that make you happy is a key part of self-care. Our free time is a great example of this. Everyone has different interests and learning about what empowers you is a key part of this. Discovery is an element of self-care and many of us can take time to find out what exactly we enjoy. School gives us an avenue to do this with extracurriculars. Something as simple as joining a school club can set a positive foundation for the rest of your life. Being open to these experiences is also a part of this since a flexible mindset can give us the courage to try new things.

It's Good For Your Health

Health is another crucial area to consider when it comes to self-care. Mental health specifically comes to mind since it can affect our perception of the world around us. A good example of this is taking time off. As students, there are many assignments and responsibilities that we need to do. This can include homework, extracurriculars, and even a part-time job to pay for higher education. Each of these things is important since they can help us move closer to our goals. With that in mind, they also need to be paced properly. This is where self-care comes in. Being able to give yourself time away from these things can give you an overall better appreciation for all the effort and hard work you do on a day-to-day basis. Resting allows us to recover from what we do while also being able to come back to it with a better perspective.

It Keeps You Happy

Lastly, the biggest reason why self-care matters is that it keeps you happy. Being emotionally stable is one of the best goals when it comes to our health since it recognizes our own value. Happiness is like any other emotion, it can ebb and flow similar to the tides of the ocean. With that in mind, finding ways to sustain these feelings can be a good thing. Taking care of your needs by ensuring that you're eating and sleeping on a regular basis are just a few ways to do this. Having a good social network is another key part of self-care since having a good support group can also help us emotionally. Friends and family are some of the most important people in our lives, and it's much easier to interact with them when we are able to take care of our own needs.
