Adaptive Thinking

How we think is good to consider since it affects our success in life. Recognizing whether our thoughts are working with or against us is one of many examples of this. Something to think about is how flexible we are with our thoughts. There are many instances where it's good to be firm with how we think but it's also good to consider alternatives. Adaptive thinking is one of these mindset shifts and we want to see why it can be so effective.

Making Informed Choices

All of us want to feel confident with the decisions we make since some of them can radically change the course of our lives. A good example of this can be the major we pick or the career path we go down. Both of these can affect many other aspects of our lives and it's good to consider how everything correlates to one another. One way we can make it so that we're confident with our choices is to try to make sure that we're informed. A good way to do that is to seek out what possible routes we can take when problem-solving and seeing how others have fared as a result. With that in mind, even when we think we make an informed choice, being able to adapt to new information can make a world of difference.

Context Is Everything

The main benefit of adaptive thinking is its ability to re-contextualize what we already know. Similar to re-framing our perspective, context plays a big role in how relevant new information can be. What works for one person might not always apply to someone else depending on the situation. Being mindful of what's within your capability is one way to apply the right context. For example, if the only way to fix a piece of technology is by opening it up to repair it, we can potentially do that ourselves only if we're confident with our skills. Adaptive thinking teaches us that sometimes we need to seek out help for things outside of our skill set and it's both okay and encouraged to do so.

Feelings Matter Too

Adaptive thinking requires us to consider our emotional state when doing things since it's a crucial area to consider. As much as we want to focus on being rational, the emotional part of our brain can and will take over at times depending on how we've trained ourselves to react. The context for whether this is good or bad depends because it can give us the courage to speak up when we feel things aren't fair. Likewise, it can also affect how productive we can be if we aren't feeling our best. Being in tune with our emotions can help us figure out an ideal solution along with considering other points of view. It can help us be humane with our approach while valuing qualities such as empathy and understanding. Our thoughts are able to lift us up if we give them the chance, it's simply a matter of embracing change.
