Making Choices That Empower You

Life has many different decisions that we have to make at some point that can feel complex and overwhelming at times. Rather than letting these feelings get the better of us, we can opt to find ways to make it easier on ourselves. Today we want to talk about why it's so important to make choices that help empower us.

Value Your Emotions

While making a decision based purely on emotions isn't always the best choice, it's still a factor that we need to consider. As people, we're emotional at heart and they influence a lot of our actions on a daily basis. Saying hi to someone we care about for example is a lot easier than doing that to someone we may not necessarily click with. Being aware of this is good since we can take the time to analyze whether we want this to be a part of the decision-making process or whether to bench these thoughts for a moment to see how to best solve something. Our feelings will always be part of a decision in some way or another and learning how to work alongside them is the key to empowering ourselves.

Think Logically

Logic is a key part of decision-making since it relies upon our knowledge and understanding of the world around us. For some people taking the time to do the research necessary to make an informed choice can be enjoyable. This is good because it helps us to see all the different possible routes that we can take for our decisions and can make us feel more confident. Logic can help us learn to trust the rational side of our brain and in turn, lead ourselves to better possible results. Empowerment comes from a combination of learning how to trust a combination of each of our unique perspectives. For some decisions, we may place more emphasis on one side of things which can help us depending on the situation. Its good to recognize that both perspectives are valid and worth using.

Consider How Long This Choice Affects You

Being able to distinguish what types of choices are made in the short and long term is essential to making decisions that empower you. Both of these serve different sorts of purposes. For example, the type of food we eat today can eventually turn into a habit that can potentially help us. The same applies for when we go to bed. Long periods of late nights can eventually turn into a habit that changes our sleep schedule. Long-term decisions such as which college we want to go to can affect the quality of our learning and our day-to-day experiences. Longer choices can be empowering since our confidence can help us make the right decision. Working through our decisions through a combination of logic, reasoning, and our emotions allows us to make an educated choice on the direction we want to take our lives.
