Building A Good Moral Compass

Everyone has a moral compass and understanding it can make it a lot easier to work on. We want to have one that is positively aligned with good action and thought. It takes time to work on this since some things we might have to review for the sake of better overall outcomes. Today we want to talk about how we can build a good moral compass and why it’s important.

What Do You Value?

Understanding what your values are can help make it easier to work on them. A positive example of something that we value is taking care of our relationships. This is crucial since we ultimately live in a social world and we want to play our part by being a source of good with our interpersonal relationships. Spending time with others and listening are some of the easiest ways to do this. We can also consider what qualities we value in ourselves as well. Generosity is a great trait since it can help those in need while teaching us how to share our resources. Confidence is another quality that's worth having since it can give us the courage needed to do things that are good for our well-being. Values are necessary since they give us something to stand for and help define our moral code and be ethical in the process.

Sincerity Leads To Good Morals

Being sincere with both yourself and others is a great way to build a better moral compass. The reason for this is that it helps us be more authentic with who we are. Too often do we find ourselves trying to change ourselves for the sake of fitting in. The problem with doing this is that we can lose sight of who we are. When we're honest it's a lot easier to focus on how we can use our skills to problem-solve without trying to find roundabout ways of doing things. Sincerity is essential since it allows us to build the necessary trust with others since it comes from a place of goodwill.

Take Time To Reflect

In any given moment we're doing the best we can with the resources available and the person that we are at that point in time. With that said, it's healthy to reflect on our actions so we can course correct them when needed. Building a good moral compass requires us to adapt to our ever-changing needs since things might not always go how we expect them to. Looking back on scenarios we've been in can give us context about why we behaved the way we did along with seeing what to change moving forward. This is important since we don't want to justify every action we did since some things simply aren't healthy but we also want to be gentle and patient with ourselves as well. A good moral compass is indicative of so many different things such as integrity, honesty, and a willingness to change.
