How to Value Our Time More

When we think of the resources we have available one of the most common things we may think of is money. Money is extremely helpful since it can buy us opportunities that we can use to further our education or experience the world. With that in mind, there's a much better resource we have access to and that's our time. Valuing our time is essential for our happiness. Here are a few ways to help us value it more.

Review Your Schedule

Chances are that we might find ourselves doing a lot of busy work throughout the day. It's easy to fall into this since there are many days when we might not be mindful of what it is we're doing. Small things can pop up and take much longer than we expect. While it's okay to address some things we need to be aware of how these fit into our schedule. A good schedule properly manages our time in a way that empowers us and helps us do all the necessary things we need. It's also efficient and helps us get things done in a manner that won't take up the entire day. Organizing your schedule with things that are urgent versus important can help too. Urgent things require us to finish them as soon as possible while important things still matter but may have extra time to accomplish.

Prioritize What Matters

What we do with our time is deeply personal to the things we value as an individual. Certain people might dedicate more time to group events since they might be more outgoing. Someone introspective might be perfectly content reading a book in a quiet space. These things matter more depending on who you ask. It's good to keep in mind that there is a limited amount of time in the day and we might not be able to do everything we want to. On certain days we may need to compromise on what to do and prioritize a select few tasks. Planning out things on a weekly basis can make things easier on our end since it can account for most of the big things we need to do.

Immerse Yourself in Activities

Of all mindsets we can apply with spending our time, the most effective one is learning how to be immersed in the present. Doing this promotes a sense of gratitude since we're focused on appreciating what we have in the moment without thinking of the future. We can do this by breathing and tuning into our senses. Being present requires us to fully embrace the things we're experiencing along with simply going with the flow. Spending time with friends can help since it allows us to enjoy their company while usually doing something that requires our concentration. Finding fun ways to spend the day and making the most out of it can help us realize that we have plenty of time to do the things we care about.
