Being Present In Your Routine

While the past can help us learn and the future is something we need to prepare for, the present is a gift we have right now that needs to be cherished. It's easy for us to fall into the habit of rushing through things in an effort to reach a goal. Instead of doing that, we need to learn how to value the process and be present. Today we want to talk about some ways we can be more present in our day-to-day routine and why it matters.

Know What Your Daily Goals Are

Having a concise outline of what needs to be done on a given day can make it easier for us to be present. When our mind wanders it can often be the result of not having a clear sense of direction. This can happen when we feel like we're just going through the motions without a goal in mind. While going with the flow isn't bad sometimes we need a bit of structure to help us through things. Planning out a few key things that need to be done throughout the day is a good way of doing this. It can help us be present since it allows our mind to focus on one of our tasks while getting through our list one thing at a time. Planning helps us make space for the things we value while also giving us the time to work through things actively.

Don't Overdo Things

It's good to check in with ourselves from time to time so we don't overdo things. Sometimes when we're too focused on doing as much as possible we might get overwhelmed. Being present can train us to take things one step at a time. This is helpful since it can prevent burnout and doing things at a healthier pace. Recognizing when we're doing too much is better done sooner rather than later since it can prevent the side effects of stress. One way to help us be present is by taking the time to meditate. This helps us focus on our breathing which in turn allows us to decompress and review the current situation.

Take Your Time

Pacing is another way to emphasize being present in your routine. One example of this is studying. Being able to properly set aside time to study is crucial since we don't want to leave it all for the last minute. One approach is taking a little bit of time out of each day to help ourselves build the habit of studying so it becomes second nature. This method allows us to do it at a time that works for us along with a pace that can help us more. Some of the best things in life take time to work towards and the best way to do that is by doing it at a pace that works for you. Being present allows us to focus on the moment while also building up positive habits in the process which is why it's worth the effort.
