Staying Calm

Being able to stay calm in the face of pressure is an important skill to learn. Sometimes we can let our emotions get the best of us and learning how to slow ourselves down can be crucial. Today we want to talk about some ways to stay calm and why it matters.

Slow Down Your Thoughts

Our thoughts can often make us think that there is a problem when in most cases we are fine. A good example of this can be thinking about how someone views us for example. Instead of drawing the worst possible outcome, a better approach is to slow down our thoughts and reassess the situation. In many cases, we can simply opt to talk to someone if there is a sort of conflict we are experiencing. If we find ourselves stressed about something, we can take time to meditate and see why we feel the way we do. Having a quiet space to be with our thoughts can help us relax after a long day. Being mindful of how we think is important since we want our thoughts to empower us. When our thoughts and actions are in harmony is when we can truly say we're at peace.

Focus on What's in Your Control

A common thing that can affect our thoughts is when we let things outside our influence get to us. While circumstances can indeed be unfair at times, more often than not, a better outlook is to focus on what's in your control. This can help you regain your own personal power and not let outside factors get to you as much. This is known as the internal locus of control. This can help our emotions in many different ways. For one, it can help us stay calm because it acknowledges that we do have agency within our lives. This sense of control is good since it can empower you and give you options. One example of this can be an argument. While it's tempting to want to be reactionary, slowing down and focusing on listening and authentically expressing yourself is one way to practice control of a situation.

Learn to Let go

The last major way to stay calm is learning how to let things go. It's good to keep in mind that whenever we put our attention on something, the more importance we give to it. This can apply to our emotions as well. Sometimes the best way to deal with feelings of uncertainty is to acknowledge them, and then move on. This approach is good because it assesses how we feel in an honest manner without dwelling on it. Letting go gives us the freedom to feel what we feel and then make space for new things that can give us joy. Being calm can be challenging since there are many things that can affect us but there are ways to help with this. It's ultimately worth the effort since it can help us make better decisions and improve our overall happiness.
