Applying Conceptual Thinking

There are a lot of what-ifs or hypothetical situations in our lives. Having backups and other routes we can take is essential if we want to feel a sense of security. Whether it’s planning for college or sorting through our finances, it's worth taking the time to apply conceptual thinking.

What is it?

Most problems have a solution but to get there we need to put in a healthy amount of thought and planning. Conceptual thinking revolves around the idea of taking the time to analyze many different theoretical ideas and outcomes so we can use them to solve a problem. One of the best examples of this is a flowchart. A flowchart visually demonstrates what we can do once we hit a choice with our actions or in this case thinking. It effectively tells us what our next steps for something is and allows us to have a reference for what to do along with training our minds to see all the possibilities. Organization plays a key role in this since it allows us to more easily view all of these concepts. A visual aid with either a flowchart, vision board or even some simple notes to reference can go a long way.

How it Fits Into School

Conceptual thinking can help immensely in school. Given that many classes require a lot of outside-of-the-box approaches when it comes to thinking, this style is a natural fit. A good example of this is classes such as philosophy, the humanities, and the arts. These all have a lot of thought behind them and applying conceptual thinking while studying can help visualize things more easily. This can help us even outside of the classroom as well. When deciding what courses we want to take for higher education, we need to see ourselves taking these classes and understand how they best fit into our interests. Conceptualizing how we handle things at our best and at our lowest is worth it since it can give you a more accurate picture.

How it Applies to Our Lives

It's not just school that we can apply this to but we can use conceptual thinking in many areas of our lives. One example is applying it to our finances. Higher education requires a lot of discipline with how money is used and it's good to be aware of all the components that go along with it. Using conceptual thinking to figure out what options are available for work or how we'll pay for our courses and textbooks is a great example of this. Knowing how our schedule works is also important to think about since we need to keep transportation and all the logistics that go with that in mind. The methods we use for thinking matter immensely since when applied properly, we can achieve more with less time. Conceptual thinking helps ensure that we're prepared for as many outcomes as possible.
