Improving Your Learning Environment

One area that we may not be aware of is the type of environment we find ourselves in. It can have a profound impact on many aspects. Finding ways to tweak your learning environment is good as it can help increase your performance. Here are several ways to do so.

Make a Calm Space

While our thoughts may be erratic at times with all the responsibilities we have, we can help mitigate some of the stress by making our learning environment a calm space. There are many ways to do this. One good way is to have proper lighting to help set a relaxed atmosphere. Something like this can help ease the mind with a softer color such as blue to help you focus on the task at hand. While it is subtle, the effects of it when paired with other elements such as music can help enhance your learning environment. Ideally something calm such as piano or ambient music can ease you into the learning process for things such as homework or studying. Both of these in tandem can remove stress in a manner that isn't intrusive while also allowing you to focus in a more cohesive manner.

Using Feedback

Using feedback is a great means of improving your learning environment. Feedback can help you understand which areas to work on and where to improve. One way to ask for feedback is by asking peers or your teacher for ways to make things better. While we shouldn't necessarily expect these changes to take place, brainstorming ideas can help promote new ways of thinking and allow for different perspectives. Promoting a good culture within your learning environment starts with knowing how others in the same situation feel about things. Reach out to your peers if you feel that there is something that can be discussed if only to see how they're doing. You might even be able to find a way to make things better for everyone involved. Having a good atmosphere within the classroom even with something as simple as talking to others is a good way of improving your learning environment.

Work Together With Others

Collaboration is one of the best ways to help promote learning. There are a plethora of benefits to working with other people. For one, you get to have a different perspective on assignments which can be just what each side needs to work better. One classmate may thrive on more logistical-based thinking whereas another member may do better on the creative side. Both of these are valid for different reasons and finding that fine balance between what we can do along with what others can do can help immensely. Collaboration can also come in the form of study groups where each member can focus on different aspects of an assignment. This can help condense on information while letting each side be efficient with their time. Managing your time properly is much easier in a group setting as each member can contribute their own fair share.

Improving your learning environment can be a fun activity and it's important to remember that change starts with your actions.
