What Makes us Happy?

One question that we may ask ourselves is what makes us happy? This can be difficult to answer and it reflects the thoughts and beliefs of an individual. While there is no one specific answer to this, today we want to do a deep dive into this concept and see if we can build awareness.

Make Space For Awareness

Understanding what makes us happy can be an interesting challenge to figure out. There are many different factors that can contribute to this such as the feeling we get while we're doing something, to how we feel afterward. Sometimes we may only enjoy an activity if it's with someone else which is also okay. There are multiple ways to enjoy things and being mindful of that is a good thing. Making space for awareness is one such way that we can answer what makes us happy. Taking time to meditate can help us with this because it gives us a quiet place to be with our thoughts and emotions. This is essential when it comes to happiness because it can help us trim down the number of activities we do in our leisure time that we may not enjoy.

Write Down What You Care About

Another great way to break down what makes you happy is to write down the things that you care about. This is good because we can use it to categorize the different things that we do and scale them as to how much we enjoy them. One example could be reading a book or watching a movie. Both of these give us the means to explore fictional worlds in an engaging setting and appeal to different kinds of people. We can go a step further to see which types of genres or activities we prefer and work from there. A good balance of things is also healthy because it's a reminder that we can find enjoyment in many different forms. Writing down your thoughts effectively makes it that much more tangible to appreciate the things that make you happy.

Take The Time to do What You Love

One of the last major ways to determine what makes you happy is by taking the time to do what you love. While being philosophical about what provides us happiness is good in moderation, more often than not, action can keep us centered. One example of this is doing exercise and how it keeps you in motion. When we allow our minds to not overthink the process we can appreciate the good feelings that arise from doing something like this. The same can also apply to doing creative activities as well. Simply putting pen to paper can help us write something that may help us share how we feel and in turn, express those feelings with others. Happiness can be as simple or complex as we make it out to be and tuning into our emotions when we feel introspective is important. Like any other emotion, stability is our ultimate goal, and being aware of that can go a long way.
