Respecting Your Time

We've mentioned in the past that time is by far one of if not the most valuable resources we have available. Some days might feel as if they pass us by so quickly. Recognizing whether that's because of all the busy work we're doing or because we're genuinely enjoying how it's spent is part of the process. Today we want to talk about why it's so important to respect your time and how it can help.

Spending Time on What You Care About

Everyone has someone or something that they value. Whether it's family, friends, or a partner. With only so much time in the day, we need to be aware of where our time is going since we want to be there for the people we care about. Being present is one of the best ways we can use our time since it shows that we're fully immersed in the moment and want to make the most out of it. We can do this by listening to others when talking to people and being aware of the here and now. Taking the time to work on passion projects or simply doing things you enjoy is another sign that we respect our time. With only so many opportunities for free time, it can be a wake-up call to work on what we value.

Removing Busywork

When we respect our time we're able to say no to the things that don't empower us. This is important since oftentimes there are a lot of things we think we should be doing but might simply be an inefficient use of our time. A good example of this is cleaning on a daily basis. While this might sound like a good habit, it can often take longer than it needs to. A better approach would be setting aside an hour or so when things get really messy to power through it all. Grocery shopping is another thing we can sideline to doing online since it removes a lot of the travel time to get there. It's important to utilize technology where applicable since it can make the process of managing our time that much easier.

Recognizing How To Manage Time Better

A good example of this is being able to set boundaries with our time so we can have enough of it throughout the day. If we spend the entire night studying, then chances are we can allocate our time in a more efficient manner. Clearing our schedule of events that might not be worth it is one such way to help us value our time better since it lets us prioritize the important things. It's okay to say no to things that we don't think are a good use of our time since it teaches us to use it more optimally. Like any resource, the way we use it is what defines how effective we are with it and time is no exception. Time allows us to build the type of life we want. It gives us the chance to be with those we care about, and it lets us pursue our goals.
