3 Ways to Practice Positive Psychology

Positivity is something that we can work on regardless of where we are in our lives. With so many options out there, we want to talk about 3 ways to integrate positive psychology into your life.

Allow Time For Expression

A great way to integrate positive psychology into your life is to allow time for honest expression. Expression matters because it serves as the cornerstone for sharing yourself outwardly along with being able to recognize how you feel within. Freewriting is a wonderful way to do this as it gives you the means to put your thoughts on paper in a judgment-free manner. It is expression in its purest form without the need for critique. One of the biggest reasons why we need time for this is because it allows us to focus on authenticity. Authenticity is important because it lets our thoughts align with our actions in a more cohesive manner. Doing this allows us to see how we feel and can better share our feelings with others when the moment calls for it. Positivity involves accepting oneself and understanding that our feelings hold value.

Spending Time With Others

One of the easiest ways to integrate a core aspect of positive psychology is to spend time with others and build relationships. Every person wants love and acceptance along with a good support network. Establishing this early and finding those who you work well with can give you the emotional safety net to take on any challenge. Our friends give us the courage to be ourselves along with sharing in the hobbies and passions we've come to love. Our family provides us warmth and care while also being there for us in times of need. Even something as simple as laughing together with friends over a funny movie can help you feel more connected to the world around you. Our relationships provide us with an inner sense of empowerment that can help us feel more emotionally stable while also seeing that there is more outside of ourselves.

Cultivate Gratitude

Of all the different concepts within positive psychology, one that ties all of these together is gratitude. There are an infinite amount of things to be grateful for in our lives and the first step is taking a moment to recognize it. We have our health which allows us to function and do the things that we love. We have our friends and family who give provide us with a sense of home. We have a desire to learn which allows us to see things from new and healthier perspectives. We have knowledge that lets us understand more about the world around us. We have hobbies that let us dive deeper into the things that we care about. There are so many unique ways to display gratitude for these and it's as simple as saying thank you. Let the people in your life know that you love them, do the things that fuel you with passion with joy, but most importantly remember that positive energy guides you toward gratitude.
