Embracing Simplicity

Life can feel incredibly complex some days. Managing so many elements can leave us feeling overwhelmed at times. Things such as social media or looking at all the things we don't have can make us feel like this too. Instead of falling into this, we can try a different approach. Being able to simplify your life can make things easier and more enjoyable as well. Today we want to talk about a few ways we can do that.

Cut Down on Excess

Distractions and excess are two of the common things that prevent us from enjoying a more simple lifestyle. Easily one of the biggest distractions for us is social media. This is because it presents an inaccurate depiction of people's lives by generally only showing them at their best. This isn't good since it can come with the side effect of us comparing ourselves to others. Limiting usage on this allows us to get in touch with who we are and can remove a lot of unnecessary stress that can come as a result of it. Excess falls under this as well since too much of anything isn't good for us. Our room applies to this since we might not realize how many things we own that we don't use. Cleaning things out can make us feel more free without so many items cluttering our room.

Be Happy With What You Have

While wanting things is fine, we don't want it to come at the cost of cherishing the things we do own. Gratitude and simplicity are two concepts that go hand in hand. This applies not just to material possessions but in many other aspects too. Our friendships fall under this since there might be days when we don't always get along with the people in our lives. It's good to remember that the people that you're friends with are there because it's something they're choosing to do. This alone is a huge reminder that we need to be grateful for the time we do spend with them and learn to accept who they are instead of trying to change them.

Be Present With Your Thoughts And Actions

Our thoughts form the basis for what we do with our actions. When we're feeling happy then it's more likely we'll engage in positive activities and this is even easier when our mind is in the present rather than the future. The thing about always thinking of what's next is that it dismisses all the good things we have going on for us in the moment. The simple approach allows us to focus on what's within our control currently so that we can fully immerse ourselves in what we're doing. Being present takes a conscious effort and we need to be aware when we start to find ourselves thinking about the future too much or dwelling on the past. Simplicity helps us learn about the things we really value by focusing on them and removing any excess.
