Reaching Out to Others

Communication is extremely important since it can determine the quality of our relationships with others along with how we feel internally. A great way to express that you care is by learning how to reach out to others. Today we want to talk about why this simple act can make a world of difference.

It Promotes Trust

Trust is essential within relationships since it affects what each side feels comfortable sharing. In relationships with high trust, both sides can feel confident saying what they want. In order to build trust, we need to focus on several things. The first of which is being authentic to who we are. Trust built upon authenticity is good because it allows you to be yourself in the presence of others. Sharing your feelings with people is good since it gives greater insight into your emotions about a topic. Similarly, listening to others can also build trust. There will be many instances where we need to take a proactive approach when it comes to reaching out to people. Some subtle signs could be seeing someone be more reclusive or their language is self-deprecating. These are important to recognize since they can hint at something someone else is going through. Taking the first step to reaching out can solidify that someone can trust you.

It Establishes Empathy

Empathy is another core area within communication and it is also best seen when we are reaching out to others. The act of going outside of our comfort zone to talk to others about things that are making them uncomfortable demonstrates selflessness. This is good because it helps us distance ourselves from the constant talk about our own needs to truly see how someone else's life is. Empathy helps us push past certain aspects of our ego in order to have a better understanding of the world at large. It's important to think about how differently others experience similar situations since perspective varies from person to person. Empathy gives us the opportunity to put ourselves in someone's shoes to see how their feelings lead to an action or vice versa. Learning to give someone else the time of day can build these empathetic qualities and help impact someone's life for the better.

It's The Right Thing to do

When it comes to the idea of reaching out to others we may often have many questions about it. Sometimes we may ask ourselves, “should I even do this?” or “is this worth my time?” While these may come up from time to time there are a couple of factors to consider beforehand. Understanding your own needs is essential because we need to help ourselves first before we help others. This is important because when we reach out to others we want to give them our full and undivided attention since it's usually a sensitive topic. If we don't feel well it could lead to a less conducive conversation. With that in mind some things can't wait when it comes to reaching out and in instances like that, reaching out is simply the right thing to do. Communication skills are essential and learning to be there for someone can improve their lives while also helping build empathy.
