Keeping an Optimistic Outlook

Perspective is one of the most important things within our lives. There are many different ways to see something and learning to view things in a different light can make all the difference. One way to do this is to keep an optimistic mindset. Today we want to talk about some ways to maintain this outlook and how to work toward it.

Spend Time With The Right People

Your social circle has a large influence on your overall outlook. Being mindful of who you spend your time with is good as it can give you insight into what others value. A good thing to consider is how many of your interactions with someone are positive and negative. Nobody is perfect and expecting someone to always be happy isn't realistic but there are other factors to consider when we look at this from the lens of optimism. Our time is limited and spending that time with people who empower us and make us feel better is one way to see things in a better light. An optimistic outlook is believing that people have the ability to be the best possible version of themselves. This is good because it gives others the grace to be able to change and still learn about who they are. A good social circle can improve your overall happiness and give you a sense of community.

Focus on What You Can Change

An optimistic outlook recognizes that there are many things in our power that we can change. This ties into a concept known as our internal locus of control. This focuses on the things that we have direct influence over such as what we plan to eat on any given day. An optimistic outlook challenges us to look at these factors as these are the ones that can improve our happiness. Rather than diverting our attention to factors that are beyond our control, this approach reminds us of all the things we can do. A good example of this would be using our attention on taking care of ourselves as we have a choice in what we eat and when we sleep.

Give Yourself The Space to Learn

Giving yourself the space to learn matters immensely when it comes to this sort of optimistic outlook. It's good to recognize that at every point in our lives we are always learning. School gives us the foundation and room to learn about topics that we may love. There is also a sort of personal responsibility that we need to consider when it comes to being a lifelong learner. An optimistic mindset gives us the mental clarity to see that we do in fact have the ability to learn for ourselves. This is good because it demonstrates that you can be self-efficient along with having fun while learning. Finding joy in the process of something matters just as much as trying to reach the end goal. An optimistic mindset can teach us that there are many wonderful things out there in life, it's just a matter of focusing your time and energy on them.
