Being Mindful of Your Health

There are many things we will have to manage throughout our lives. From getting good grades to learning how to work with money and even finding success with our future careers, all of these revolve around one key thing. The most important concept of these is our health because without it we can't perform at our best. Today we want to talk about why we need to be mindful of our health.

Using Mindfulness to See How You Feel

Mindfulness is the act of “being conscious or aware of something.” We can use this to help in many ways for our health. If we are in pain or feeling discomfort, rather than pushing through and ignoring things, we need to acknowledge them as they happen. A common thing that can happen when we are stressed is either shortness of breath or chest pain. This can happen when we are experiencing either short-term stress or chronic stress. If it is short-term, we can use mindfulness to detect how we feel and act accordingly. For some, this means walking away from the situation and coming back to it with a clear mind. This is good as taking the time to make an informed choice is often constructive for problem-solving. Alternatively, if it is long-term, we can do research to see why we feel the way we do and practice things that are within our control to help empower us.

Mindfulness as an Exercise

Mindfulness and meditation are two things that go hand in hand when it comes to our health. Typically this is because mindfulness can make us aware of any problem we are experiencing, and meditation can let us address these issues in a safe and non-judgmental setting. While our lives may be complicated, we can work on exercises to help simplify things and make it easier on ourselves. Too often do we find ourselves overloaded with responsibilities that can affect how we feel. Taking a moment to sit down and reflect on the things we truly care about can make it easier on our minds. Simply breathing and appreciating the moment can benefit our health in a constructive manner.

Mindfulness as a Means of Change

Mindfulness has a much larger impact than we might think. The act of being able to look at how we feel can translate into other good things for us as well. It can let us review areas that we may need to work on such as exercise which can promote other good habits. Using mindfulness as a means of change and bettering ourselves comes in many shapes in forms. If we find ourselves stressed in friend groups because we argue, we can use mindfulness to rethink how we feel and assess if being more laid back can help us. This can also apply to school work as well. If homework is affecting our health by trying to do perfectly on every assignment, then we can allocate our time in a manner where we aim for 90% rather than 100%. While this technique is different depending on the person, the act of being mindful can give you the choice to take care of your health and enjoy life.
