It's Humbling

When it comes to how we act, one thing that may be off-putting is if we have a prideful sort of response to the things we have. This is usually correlated to expecting us to have certain things in our life and taking them for granted. While material things may provide us with a short-term comfort, it can easily make us feel like our sense of self-worth is related to these objects. This mentality can be harmful as it promotes a sense of entitlement which devalues other aspects of life for both yourself and for others. Gratitude, in particular, is one such way to help alleviate this as it acts as a sort of balance for what we have. Humility and gratitude go hand in hand as they both teach you the importance of cherishing the things you do have while ensuring that you won't need to worry about taking things for granted.

It Lets You Appreciate Others

Gratitude extends far beyond material objects and our possessions. One incredibly value way to demonstrate gratitude is to show appreciation for others in your life. Our friendships and relationships act as a sort of interconnected community which help tie each other together. Our friends are there when we need someone to spend time with along with sharing mutual interests. Our family is there as our safety net for emotional support and provide us with love and care. Far too often do we go our lives without telling the people in it how much they mean to us and how they've shaped our lives. Gratitude gives us the courage to gently remind people that they are important and provide value, not just in our lives but in others.

It Keeps You Strong

Sometimes we may find ourselves in a difficult situation where it may seem that there is nothing out there. If you've ever felt like this, that is normal as life can throw things far beyond our control. One thing that we need to do when we get in this mindset is to practice gratitude. Gratitude can function as an extremely helpful means of controlling stress by reminding us of the positive experiences we've had. While we shouldn't dismiss how we feel, the good memories can keep us grounded by recognizing that life has its up and downs is worth cherishing the good times while learning from the bad. Gratitude can build mental fortitude to keep you going strong.

These are just some of the many reasons that gratitude can help. Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate our loved ones along with all the wonderful things we have in our lives and we wish you a pleasant holiday!
