Why Flexible Thinking is Valuable

Our thoughts have the ability to empower us and make better decisions. Finding out how to do this can be a challenge in and of itself. One effective way to do this is by being flexible with our thinking. Today we want to talk about why this is valuable and how to work towards it.

New Perspectives

One of flexible thinking's biggest strengths is the ability to help us see new perspectives. This is helpful for a multitude of reasons. For starters, it helps us recognize that there are more points of view outside of our own. This is healthy because it's good to remember that our perspective is just one of many and it isn't always the best possible way to see things. A better way to look at things is to consider our points of view since there is value to be had from these. A great example of this can involve asking someone what their thoughts are on something. Chances are that you may learn something new from them and consider an aspect you normally wouldn't have.

It's a Healthier Way to View Things

Another great reason why flexible thinking is valuable is that it's inherently a healthier way to view things. This is primarily because it helps us avoid a rigid mindset. A rigid mindset is limiting because it prevents us from seeing other points of view. This can be harmful since it can lead us toward having a mindset that is unconstructive. Being flexible allows us to be open to new possibilities and gives us the courage to be more proactive. A more flexible mindset can help steer us towards healthier habits that lead us to an overall better sense of happiness. One example of this can be considering our eating and sleeping habits. While in our mind we may be content with this, getting an expert’s opinion on something like our diet can help us balance what we eat which in turn can improve the quality of the food we eat.

Better Problem Solving

The last reason why flexible thinking can help is that it facilitates better problem solving. Many problems can often be complicated and in some cases there isn't always a clear answer. An example of this can be expressing how you feel to someone about a disagreement. Instead of being rigid with your response, things like this require a lot of thought and consideration. Flexible thinking allows us to think of multiple responses to this and can make us feel more prepared. It can give us the tools needed to empathize with others along with being confident enough to express how we feel. This can also carry over for other things as well. We can use this more flexible mindset to help us meditate on things and find the proper solution to them. Our thoughts are best used in a manner to help empower us and learning how to do this can make all the difference.
