Effective Ways To Communicate

Communication is one of the biggest deciding factors when it comes to our success in social settings. Being able to do our part and find healthier methods of communication can make it easier for us to make friends and find common ground. Today we want to take a look at how we can do this and why it's worth our time.

Seeing Positive Intent

Oftentimes we might find ourselves misunderstanding one another because of how we try to understand them. Intent is something to consider when trying to assess what someone is saying or the motivation behind it. While it does help to be skeptical, we still need to have a basic form of trust with those around us since many people are good at heart. One way we can do this is by learning how to see positive intent. Our friends are a good example of applying this since they care about us even if they don't always express it right. When we're surrounded by people who have our best interests at heart, it's a lot easier to see positive intent since it's from a place of sincerity.

Approaching From Empathy

All of us have a story to share along with our own perspectives that accompany our life experiences. Sometimes we might find ourselves putting up some barriers around ourselves as a result of this but what we really need to do is focusing on building bridges with one another. The best way to do this is being able to approach people from a place of empathy. Everyone wants to feel listened to and understood. Listening is something that takes an active effort since it requires us to pay attention to both what someone is saying and how they're saying it. An empathetic approach puts us in someone else's shoes so that we're able to see things outside of our perspective. This can help us see things differently along with making it easier for us to accept those around us.

Promote Respect

Respect is essential if we want to ensure that both sides feel valued. We can do this by using kind language with one another while also being mindful of our tone. Patience also falls under this since we need to be aware of how much tolerance we have for certain things. Understanding what gets to us and having the right boundaries can make establishing respect easier since we're more aware of our needs. Likewise we have to put in the effort to be considerate of others since everyone has different tolerances. Respect can make it so that everyone feels that they matter and to help others know we want to work with them. Communication is something that we need to adjust and adapt to depending on who we're talking with which can add nuances to it. That said, we do have the tools needed to do this and it's a matter of wanting to improve while still caring about ourselves and others.
