How to be More Efficient

Being efficient is great since it can train you to value your time more along with being able to make the most of it. It's good to recognize that efficiency allows us to do things more deliberately with the intent of seeing how we can improve our current situation. Today we want to dive into how we can be more efficient along with some constructive ways to do so.

Know How Your Spend Your Time

Being aware of how you spend your time is a fantastic first step to help you be more efficient. This is largely in part because when we're not conscious of this, we can waste our time in the process. The best example of this is spending most of the day watching tv or browsing through social media. While these activities are fun and leisure is important, too much of anything can be excessive. A good exercise to do is using a time journal to see where it is exactly that we're using the bulk of our time. This can help us practice this form of awareness in a manner that allows us to tangibly see what we're doing and when. This can help us stay on track while giving us an opportunity to work on how we personally work through our tasks.

Eliminate Bad Habits

Our habits have a huge impact on how efficient we are and eliminating bad habits is worth our time. The most common example of this is our sleeping habits. Along with eating well, getting a good night’s sleep should be one of our highest priorities. When well-rested, we can easily concentrate on the task at hand along with helping us relax after a long day. This sort of mental reprieve is needed since our minds deserve time to recover in order to function properly. The same can be said for what we eat. Ideally, we want our food to empower us so we can be more efficient. One example of this involves being aware of how you feel after eating a protein bar versus eating fast food. Chances are the protein bar will leave you feeling ready to take on the world. Being efficient involves taking time to build discipline since it can make a tangible difference.

Understand How You Get Your Best Work Done

Awareness is one of your best tools and this can be applied in several ways. For one it can help us understand how you can get your best work done. This is crucial since all of us have different criteria for what allows us to perform more efficiently. For some, it's as simple as taking multiple smaller breaks to help stretch the creative muscles. For others, it can involve a higher sense of autonomy where having more control can help you perform better. Some people work best with a more well-defined structure since it provides stability. Each of these is valid and highlights how unique all of us are when it comes to efficiency. It's simply a matter of recognizing it and slowly taking actionable steps to help us get there.
