Taking Time to De-Stress

Stress can often affect us in a myriad of ways. Most of the time it can feel challenging to get through while at other times it can be a good kind of stress. Being able to relax is important though since it can help relieve some of the negative feelings associated with stress. Today we want to talk about why taking time to de-stress is important along with some ways to do so.

Being Kind to Yourself

Everyone deserves to be more kind to themselves since we can often neglect our own needs during times of stress. A great example of this is seeing how we feel after a disagreement. Sometimes we may be too harsh on ourselves even if we're being both sincere and diplomatic. Learning how to not be our own worst critic is crucial since we can easily find ourselves overthinking things. It's helpful to remember that everyone is doing their best with the tools at their disposal and this includes being mindful of where we are in our lives. Sometimes we have a lot on our plate which can make even things that are normally easy more difficult. Being able to de-stress means that we have to practice this sort of awareness since it's through kindness that we can make the space for positivity.

Resting is Productive

A common misconception is that taking too much time off is unproductive. This couldn't be further from the truth. Many of us spend countless hours working on things for our careers or for our education without taking the proper amount of time for ourselves. We can see this in school when we feel forced to get everything done in a rush so we can enjoy the day. Instead of doing this, we need to pace ourselves so we can both work and play. A great way to do this is by setting aside time for rest throughout the day. This can include giving yourself some time for taking a nap, simply eating a healthy meal, or even slowing down your thoughts by listening to music. Rest is productive because it clears our mind after a tough day along with being a healing source of energy.

Maintaining Emotional Health

Our emotional health is closely connected to how stressed we are. When times are tough, we might find ourselves being anxious or overwhelmed. Rather than letting things get to this point, we need to find a healthy medium. Stress is inevitable and instead of fearing it, we need to work with it. A good way to do this is by taking a deep breath and thinking about several different routes to take. Oftentimes when we're stressed it's because we feel that we only have one option which isn't always the case. Creative solutions and being in a calm frame of mind can make it that much easier to help ourselves not be weighed down by negativity. Being able to slow down our thoughts and rest can help us be more stable with our thoughts and emotions.
