Knowing Your Limits

In life, there are some things we may be more confident about than others. Recognizing what these things are is crucial since our well-being is one of the most important things. Learning what are limits are can take time but it's ultimately worth the effort since it helps us and those around us. Today we want to talk about some ways to do this and why it matters.

Understand Your Strengths

Our strengths guide us toward the best outcome since they're what keep us going. Some of us may be more gifted at being better with people than others. Some people may be talented at art and use it in a manner to make a positive change. Others are physically strong and can be relied upon when the going gets tough. Each of these shows different ways that we can perform at our best and it's good to keep these in mind since they keep us optimistic. If we're good at sports we may find ourselves taking the opportunity to try out new physical activities along with meeting others with similar interests. Limits require us to know what we're good at since it gives us a reference point in other areas.

Practice Awareness

Awareness is key when it comes to knowing your limits. We can't be good at everything and that is perfectly okay. Sometimes we simply might struggle with learning a new concept or trying out something we don't know much about. Being able to think about what it is we're trying to understand is important since it helps us from a metacognitive perspective. Awareness teaches us the value of slowing down our thoughts and seeing when things may be too much for us to handle. Meditation can also help us build this skill since it gives us a quiet place to be with our thoughts. We can use it to reflect on the past and see whether or not we went past our limits. It can also show us how to work towards a better future by learning from our past experiences.

Accept What You're Capable of

Acceptance is the final step in knowing your limits. Understanding is an essential part of the process since we ultimately want to be gentle with ourselves. We can do this by learning how to be okay with whatever results happen. Sometimes we don't always have a choice when it comes to doing things beyond our limits. We might have to take a test we know we aren't confident about or even participate in a group that we don't click with. It's okay for us to go through these things since they can help us be more patient when they do happen. Loving who we are is part of the acceptance process since we know ourselves and our limits better than anyone. We can work on the things we want to improve on along with being at peace with the things that are beyond our control.
