3 Ways to Make Friends at School

One of the best parts about school is spending time with your friends. School is an environment that allows us to develop our social skills as well as our critical thinking skills. Given how much time we spend with others in class, it’s only natural to want to get to know your classmates more. Here are three tips to help you make more friends in school.

Start a Conversation With Others

When you’re trying to bond with someone a good method of getting to know them is by asking questions. After class go up to one of your classmates and ask them if they understood the lesson or if they enjoyed the material. Questions about class are good as they are mutual between other students. Later on, once a friendship is established you can ask them more personal things that can help you further the friendship. Showing interest in others such as their opinions, their likes and dislikes and more can help them open up to you about their life, ultimately creating a stronger bond.

Spend Time Outside of Class

Making friendships that last require taking extra steps. One good way to do this is by spending time with others outside of class. Having lunch or studying together outside of the classroom are some great ways to do this. This personal, outside-of-class time helps turn the friendship into something less temporary. This will give you both time to get to know each other better and see if you really fit well as friends.

Make Others Feel Important

One of the last pieces of advice is to make others feel important. Compliment them and let them know what you enjoy about their company. If they have a specific quality that you really like, let them know! People love feeling special and it will move them to look at all your positive traits as well. It’s also important to actively make time for people.

Above all else, remember to be yourself. Spend less time trying to be who you think others will like and just be you. As always, be kind to yourself and never stop working to become the best you possible.
