Being Content With The Life You Have

It's easy to get wrapped up in all of the goals and ambitions that we have. Some of our goals might be a daily process for us and can take much more time out of our day than we expect. While there's nothing wrong with having ambition, there's another way to look at things as well. Today we want to talk about why it's important to be content with the life you have.

Looking at Ambition

Usually, ambition can be found when people are working towards a certain life goal they want to achieve. It's a form of motivation that's fueled by reaching a certain point or stage in your life. While ambition in and of itself isn't necessarily good or bad, how we use it and the thoughts behind it play a key role. For example, wanting to do something to the point where we're sacrificing our mental and physical well-being on a consistent basis is an example of negative ambition. Taking active steps to work toward something you value is a positive ambition. Some people are content with the act of trying to reach a goal post since it intrinsically makes them happy. But what about people who are fine as they are?

Contentment is Different Than Complacency

One thing to consider is the idea of complacency. Being complacent comes at the cost of personal growth or self-awareness. It can be staying put in a situation simply because it's easier to do so. This isn't a healthy approach because it can come at the cost of our emotional stability and life satisfaction. It's important to find the difference in your own life when not having a goal or ambition is a result of you being content with your life as it is. Too often do we feel the need to have goals as a means of justifying our free time or to hit certain life milestones when simple things such as being with friends and family or being skilled at a craft can make us happy. If there's any goal we should prioritize, it's being content with what we have.

Consider What Makes You Happy

It's safe to say that most of what we do is an effort to find some form of happiness within our lives. Instead of trying to always be walking towards a goal that makes us happy, what if we can find joy in what we already have? It's good to meditate and think about some of the wonderful things we have right now that make us feel content with our lifestyle. A good roof over our heads, hobbies to dedicate our time to, family that loves us, and a good social network to connect with others are just a few of the things we have going on. Happiness doesn't have to be a massive ambition that we dedicate our entire lives towards but rather a perception and sense of gratitude that we carry with us.
