Valuing Your Accomplishments

Whether you're a process-oriented person or goal-focused, everyone has done things in their lives that they're proud of. While this is the case, sometimes it can be hard for us to see what we've done. Today we want to talk about some reasons why it's important to value your accomplishments along with some mindset shifts to help.

Goals Keep You Focused

Having goals is a good thing since they allow us to stay focused and strive toward the things we care about. Accomplishments are essentially goals that we've completed that we can look back on. It's good to have a positive outlook toward these since many of us may not realize all the effort that goes into our goals. One example of this is higher education. Every step of our academic journey helps prepare us for this since our classes teach us different things. While hitting our goal post is what we want to do, being mindful of how our journey is going is equally important. It's this sort of intense focus on the process that allows us to channel that energy in a manner that helps us see through bigger goals.

Seeing How Far You've Come

Progress is another way to help us value our accomplishments since it shows us that the journey is important as well. Looking back on how we've performed throughout school can give us insight as to how well we did in certain classes. This can also show us things that we want to improve on so we can have a more well-rounded skill set. Balance is a key part of our accomplishments since while we do want to celebrate what we've done, we don't want that to come at the cost of trying out new things we're passionate about. Every accomplishment carries with it a sense of pride that we can take away from it since we've put in the time and effort. With this in mind, being happy with these accomplishments by looking back and saying “I did this” can keep that same sort of positivity close to your heart.

Working Towards Greatness

A healthy way to value your accomplishments is by seeing them as a means of helping you strive for greatness. One reason why this is good is because it helps deter us from seeking perfection. We can't do everything perfectly, but we can certainly put in the time and effort to achieve good results and in some ways, that's the better option. Goals give us the means to push ourselves to be better individuals and this is by teaching us the value in self-improvement. Each of our accomplishments helps solidify this in a different manner. Some of them teach us how to be more efficient with our time, while other accomplishments are seen within successful relationships. All of these have an inherent sense of value that we need to be mindful of since they contribute to our lives in more ways than we think.
