Taking Initiative in Your Life

Being able to take charge of your life demonstrates many healthy qualities. This is good as it can empower us to make the right choices and ultimately help us. Today we want to talk about the importance of taking initiative in your life.

It Gives You Choice

Feeling that you have a say in what happens with your life is a good thing. One concept that is good to recognize is the idea of an internal locus of control. This revolves around the idea that you feel that you have control over what happens through a combination of your actions and beliefs. For some areas such as improving in either school or the workplace, this is really good. It can empower you to study in a more constructive manner or even apply yourself to different areas in your career. The key factor with this type of approach is that instead of waiting for opportunities to approach you are to approach them instead. Rather than hoping you'll do well on a test, take some time to ask more questions while in class or write more detailed notes. Initiative can give us the drive we need to search for opportunities that can help enhance our lives.

Sharing Your Thoughts

Speaking up can be difficult depending on the situation but sometimes it's worth doing. Sharing your thoughts on something that can affect yourself or other people in the same community can help you understand your needs. A good example of this can involve a key decision being made in a school club. While we may not necessarily be in a position of authority, it is good to discuss how potential changes can affect the members within it. Communication is a life skill that often goes by the wayside due to anxiety for speaking up. While it can be tough to have a different opinion it can ultimately build character while showcasing that your feelings matter. Taking the initiative to do this can be done by taking a deep breath, thinking before you speak, and following through on it with confidence knowing that you are being sincere.

Leadership And Initiative

There are times to follow and there are also times to lead. Your own life is one of those instances that you want to be a leader in. A good way to do this is to set an example for others by being a positive influence. You can do this by trying to be your best possible self and promoting acts of kindness and sincerity. This type of leadership can also be applied in other areas such as in group projects. Taking initiative within these types of groups is often needed as it can establish direction. This type of organization is good since it can lead to each member contributing their own share of the work. Groups require good leaders and school is a great time to hone that skillset in a healthy environment. While initiative may take time to work on, it's something that can give us the motivation needed to improve and find meaning in what we do.
