Reclaiming Your Happiness

Happiness is inherently personal to each of us and worth thinking about. It can be the result of something good happening to us or simply being content with certain areas of our lives. Sometimes though we might feel as though it can be hard to be happy at times due to circumstances. Today we want to look at how to focus on personal empowerment so that we can reclaim our happiness.

Don't Rely On Others For Happiness

One of the easiest pitfalls we might find ourselves in is relying on others for happiness. While having a sense of community and belonging is good we can't have it be the end-all factor for our self-worth. In a lot of cases, it can take time to find people we truly click with but the wait is worth the effort. The important thing is learning how to be okay by yourself and find ways to be happy without someone else. A great way to do this is by planning events that you can still enjoy if someone isn't able to show up. Rather than do nothing, continue doing what you were going to do anyway and treat it as an opportunity to practice self-care.

Recognize That Happiness Is Your Responsibility

Happiness is something that we need to take responsibility for. It's nobody else's job but our own to make sure that our emotional stability is taken care of. Recognizing that we can choose how we react to situations can be incredibly empowering. It teaches us that we are capable of making decisions that can alter our lives for the better. Reflecting on past experiences can help give us the context necessary to understand them better and allow us to find the right course of action. Being patient can help us make the space needed to promote understanding so we can focus on positive change in the future.

Listen To How You Feel

It isn't just about reclaiming our happiness alone, it's about being able to find your sense of inner calm and stability. Emotional stability should be our ultimate goal and this is best done through self-care. We can start by taking the time to meditate and be by ourselves. Reflection allows us the time and space needed to process our feelings so that we can get back to things with a better perspective. Our feelings help us make sense of the world but we need to truly listen to them. When we're upset it's a sign to think about our relationship with things to see why we feel that's the case. It could be because of circumstance or unfairness and it's good to know why. Being mindful of what can and can't be changed can also help with this since it teaches us how to focus our attention on the things that make us happy.
