Scheduling Yourself For Success

Having a good set of life skills can give you the tools needed to be efficient. Some of these skills can be worked on very early and a good example of these is scheduling. Being able to properly schedule can help you work towards personal success. Let's see how we can do this with a couple of adjustments to our routine.

Understand Your Week

Given that time is one of our most valuable resources, it's up to us to understand how to best allocate it. One way to do so is by having a better understanding of the main things you want to accomplish each week. Being mindful to not over-schedule yourself can help you reclaim your time so you can have more energy. A good way to start with this is by asking yourself what your priorities are. After we do this we can start small by taking 3 days a week where we make those priorities higher on our list so we can work around them. The benefit of a weekly approach is that it gives us a mix between short-term and long-term planning without overdoing it. By setting a weekly time limit it gives us enough room to plan with some spontaneity being allowed.

Schedule For Sustainability

Thinking of scheduling as a means of organizing our habits is a helpful way to look at things. Our habits help form the backbone of how we get through our day-to-day life and they can motivate us to work toward our goals. With all that in mind, a good way to schedule is to focus on sustainability since that's one of the best approaches when it comes to building better habits. A good example of this is an exercise routine since we need to account for when we have the free time to do so. When scheduling for this, we need to think about what kind of exercise we want to focus on while also having a rest day be a part of it. Rest is necessary since it helps our mind and body recover so that we can take on things with a fresh outlook when we return to them.

Give Yourself Flexibility

Being able to appreciate all the wonderful things that are part of life is part of the journey that we're on. A schedule like many things is a tool that is there to help you make the most of your efforts and it's important for it to empower you. A schedule that's too rigid might make us feel that we don't have much room for things outside of it. That's why flexibility needs to be a big consideration when crafting our schedule since it ideally fits what we need to accomplish while still being mindful of our wants. Some days we might just want to relax and do nothing at all. Other days we might feel more productive than usual. What matters is finding a method that works best for our own needs.
