How to Build a Good Relationship With Your Teachers

Many students are unaware of the benefits of establishing positive relationships with their teachers. Teachers are multi-faceted people and have a lot more to offer you than schoolwork. From guidance, to support, to recommendation letters, being close to your teachers can greatly increase the quality of your high school experience. Here are some things you can do to build a good relationship with your teachers.

Establish Respect

One good way to establish a good relationship with your teachers is to treat them with respect. Respect is crucial as it helps solidify that you value who they are as a human being. Not only is it common courtesy, but it does a great job of building trust as well. As one of the cornerstones of interaction, we need respect to ensure we are on the same page.

Demonstrate Responsibility

You will also want to show your teachers that you are responsible and involved in your education. It’s not about being the star pupil or acing every test, it is about giving 100% to whatever you do. This will show them that you are dedicated and committed. These are good traits to have as a student and a person. Actively participating in class will help your teachers hear more about who you are and what your opinions are. While many of these things may benefit us, they also help you build a good rapport with your professors.

Talk to Them Outside of Class Hours

Visiting your teachers outside of class hours can also be helpful. Maybe you have a question you weren't able to ask in class or you’re having trouble completing a homework assignment. This will allow you to get clarification and your teachers to get to know you better. It can help you learn more about them as well; this will help you see them as real people with real lives outside of school.

Remember to always be genuine. Establishing a good relationship with your teachers isn’t about being impossibly nice to them, it’s about being able to learn about them and treating them as an individual.
