Making Space For Patience

Being aware of how we feel is essential if we want to have a happy and healthy life. Sometimes things come up and they can frustrate us and that's okay. Being angry, upset, sad, or frustrated is okay since these emotions are valid. Expectations can make us feel that we have to act a certain way but it can come at the cost of authentically expressing who we are. Today we want to take a different look at things and see how a bit of patience can make our lives easier.

Patience And Expectations

Oftentimes it’s our expectations that can get the better of us. We might feel as if we're in the wrong for getting mad at something when it genuinely upsets us. We might feel ashamed of feeling sad despite a lot of good things going on in our lives. The important thing here is that these are unrealistic expectations. As people, we're allowed to feel these emotions and it's good that we do because they reflect how we really feel about things. Denying them can make us feel like we're losing sight of who we are and can lead to more negativity. While this isn't an excuse to take out these feelings on someone else, it is a sign that we need to be aware of what we're experiencing. Slowing down and reassessing our thoughts can make a world of difference since it trains us to think before speaking to see if we're doing the right thing.

Patience And Expression

Patience can be applied to expression as well. Oftentimes we might feel so excited to say something it comes at the cost of listening to someone. The thing here is that when we're talking with someone else, it's a dialogue that requires both parties to interact. Being able to listen more than speak at times is good since it shows that you sincerely care about what someone else has to say. Likewise, there are times when we'll need to put our best foot forward and promote honesty with our words. Communication can be hard at times and it's okay if you need to take time to step away and think about what it is you want to say.

Patience And Self-care

Being patient with ourselves is necessary for our well-being. As people, we aren't perfect and it's unrealistic to try to be. While it's tempting to want to make every day extremely productive, it isn't always sustainable to do that. Self-care is crucial since it shows that we value our well-being. Instead of trying to make a lot of changes at once, a better approach is slowly changing things to improve the quality of your life. Going to bed an hour earlier is much easier than several hours for example. Small changes in your diet are easier to adapt to since they won't feel as drastic. Cultivating patience is something that takes time and we need to go at a pace that works best for us.
