Being Open to New Experiences as a Student

With so many different ways to go through school, no two students’ experiences will be the same. Trying out new things is important since it can help in many different ways. Today we want to talk about how we can be more open to new experiences as a student.

Step Out of The Comfort Zone

Arguably one of the hardest barriers for trying new things involves the idea of “the comfort zone.” This essentially refers to the idea that we have become content with certain aspects and areas within our lives. While yes it is good to understand what we do and don't enjoy, part of being open to new experiences requires us to try different things. One such way to do that is to take time to meditate. While it may be hard to try something new in the moment, we can reassure ourselves that things will be fine if we take the time to build up to it first. This can include something like trying to read a new genre of fiction or a different exercise we don't usually do. New activities require a different sort of mentality to them which is good as it rounds us out as an individual.

How Your Peers Can Help

New experiences can often be daunting to try alone but one thing that can help with that is your peers. If you've ever had a new class where you were unsure about how to work on the material or even a sport, others can help with that. There's a sort of motivation between your peers that can help you try new things that may be to your benefit such as studying more or taking part in a new hobby. A good example of this would be having a friend to help motivate you for exercise. Not only does this allow both sides to promote positivity but it can lead to good life choices as well regarding our health. It's good to be mindful of the kind of things you are willing to try as we do need to respect our own and others’ boundaries for new activities. Ideally, we want to encourage positive change in a manner that is fair to both sides.

New Experiences Shape Us

Finding yourself is a lifelong journey and it starts as early as school. We may not realize it in the moment, but our experiences shape us. Something as small as participating in a school club, for example, can have many different things associated with it. For one it helps us meet new friends which can lead to long-lasting relationships far beyond the scope of the classroom. It could also lead to fun moments as well such as sharing stories about each other’s lives or even spending time outside of school. New experiences can show us that there is more than meets the eye to any activity and helps us appreciate every aspect of life. School is a great means of opening yourself up to new things given that other students will feel the same.
