Persistence And Flexibility

Having the right mindset can make life more enjoyable and easy depending on how we view things. Sometimes we'll need to be persistent with our efforts since some things will require more time and energy to put into them. Knowing when to continue and when to stop is crucial since our time is valuable. Likewise, we'll also want to be flexible with our actions. Both of these concepts might seem different but there are a lot of ways they can work together.

Persistence Keeps Us Going

Sometimes we'll need to tap into our willpower to keep going for things that can be challenging. A tough course or test can feel draining at times but we need to push through these things if we want to see good results. Knowing what things are worth pushing towards takes careful consideration and just because we want something doesn't mean it's always worth doing. Persistence needs to be tempered with the expectation that our efforts will lead to some sort of payoff either intrinsically or extrinsically. Motivation is also tied with persistence because of our emotional ties with the things we do. Checking in with ourselves and seeing if something is stressing us can help us take breaks when needed.

Flexibility Helps Us Adapt

Even with our most persistent efforts, we need to have a healthy degree of flexibility. The benefit of this is that it can help us change things when they aren't working out for us. Being able to adapt to different situations is part of life and the sooner we apply it the easier things will be. Having an open mind is part of being flexible since it means we're receptive to trying new things. Changing our schedule is one example of this since doing so allows us to do things at a different time than we're used to. The benefit of this is that it can help us find out what's our ideal time for certain activities and give us a different point of view for the day. There's still some degree of consistency to this since we're still following a routine albeit at a different time.

Both Teach us Good Lessons

One of the biggest reasons why we need both of these concepts is that they help us learn the lessons needed to succeed in life. While success is something that is defined by our own idea of it, certain qualities can be universally helpful. We need a healthy balance between these two since we want to dedicate our time to the things that provide us happiness and value. Knowing when to shift our focus on something and try a different approach can teach us that just because we put a lot of time into an activity, it's okay to try to new things. Experiencing everything life has to offer is important and it's also important to dedicate enough time to the people and things we care about.
