Why we All Need Time to Rest

Rest is vital for our well-being. It gives us time to disconnect and recuperate from all the tasks and responsibilities we have. It's good for us mentally and physically as well since when we're tired both our minds and bodies feel it as a result. Today we want to talk about the importance of rest and why we need to make the time for it.

Disconnecting From Social Media

While social media does give us the means of staying connected with people we care about, it can also be very exhausting. One of the most common issues with it is that it causes us to compare ourselves to others by seeing only the positive aspects of others’ lives. This isn't inherently a bad thing to see but in excess, it can affect us. Taking days to completely disconnect from social media works wonders for our mental health since it can effectively remove the distracting nature of it. When our phone is constantly getting alerts it can put us on alert since there's an expectation to always be involved. Taking time away from this can help our minds focus on what's in front of us and give us a better appreciation for the world around us.

Time Off From School

Summer vacation is one of the best examples of the importance of rest and how time off from school can help us perform better when we eventually return. The brain is very much a muscle that we need to take care of. While the lessons we learn in school are extremely helpful, the problem-solving aspect of some courses can be very involved. Proper breaks are necessary to help us from feeling fatigued and this is seen within our study habits as well. When we take time to study we need to factor in enough time for resting afterwards since we want to pace out our focus. Having specific boundaries for when we decide to end our study session allows us to reclaim our time so we can destress accordingly.

Your Health Depends on Being Relaxed

Being well-rested has a profound impact on the quality of our health along with how much we enjoy the day. Think back to the last time you had a good night’s sleep. Chances are that you felt you could take on any task that came your way. This can be an extremely empowering feeling and we can consistently feel this way when we learn how to prioritize taking care of our own needs. That could mean taking longer breaks before getting back to schoolwork or simply going to bed at an earlier time. However you choose to rest make sure that it makes you feel better as a result of it. Everyone both needs and deserves time to themselves so they can be considerate of their own needs. The important thing to remember is that we do in fact have control over our habits and it's a matter of following through with things.
