Building Character

Character building is an important skill since it can help us improve many different qualities. There are many different ways to work toward this and today we want to discuss why this is important and how to do so.

Step Out of The Comfort Zone

The comfort zone is a concept that many of us have heard before. It often goes hand in hand with complacency. Feeling comfortable is important but being complacent with how things are can often deny us crucial life experiences that are necessary for our growth. A good example of this would be staying inside all day instead of taking the time to get out there and experience new things. Too much of the opposite also applies. If we're more comfortable outside it could be a great opportunity to reflect and why we may not feel happy at home. These sorts of questions are important to ask since they can help us get to the root of how we feel. Our thoughts are an essential part of building character because action is soon to follow.

Express Yourself Honestly

People who are confident with who they are recognize that expression is a key part of character building. A great example of this is being able to tell someone about how you feel openly and honestly. Too often do we find ourselves in situations where we are afraid of what someone else will think of us. This in turn causes us to close ourselves off from discussing things that matter. Similar to stepping outside of the comfort zone, we need to view these things as an opportunity rather than a risk. This mindset shift helps us view things in a more constructive light and allows us to express these thoughts more authentically with the people that matter. Communication skills are an essential part of character building and learning to appreciate the subtle nuances of it can make you that much more well-rounded.

Embrace Change

Embracing change is one of the best ways to build character. There will be many moments in our lives where we will need to adapt to something new happening. Rather than going against it, working alongside change can help immensely. A good example of this is our attitude when going to a new class. It can be easy to write off the experience as not as good as the previous classes but what if we entered into it with a different mindset? Changing your perspective can be one of the most valuable tools when it comes to character building. It can help you view things as opportunities to learn which can give you a greater appreciation for the world around you. A perspective shift can let us see things with an abundance mentality where we see that there are enough resources to go around for everyone. Character building involves a willingness to change and to see what would lead to an overall better quality of life. It takes time and patience but being a well-rounded person is its own reward.
