Doing Things Outside Of Your Routine

Every day is a gift and it’s up to us to cherish it. While having a consistent routine is good and in many ways healthy, there can still be a lot of merit to breaking away from it now and then. Some days the weather might be so good that we can't help but want to take advantage of it and have fun. Today we want to talk about why it's so important to do things outside of your routine.

When Things Line Up

Opportunity is something that arises now and then and to make the most of it we have to take action. A good example of this might be a sunny day. Planning a trip to the beach with friends is one of the most simple yet fun things we can do since it gets us out of our heads and more immersed in nature. The same can apply to taking a trip to the park or simply hiking. When we're out and about we're able to refresh ourselves by connecting with the planet and appreciating our environment. It can even help us try something new such as studying outdoors which can do us a world of good for our mental well-being.

Making An Effort To Do New Things

Change can feel tough to adjust to at times. It can be the result of things being outside our control or simply because it’s something we need to do for our health. It takes a conscious effort to do new things but it's ultimately worth it since it can give us a better appreciation for the present. One good exercise to do is writing down a list of things you've always wanted to do. Start small and ask yourself what is within the current realm of possibility and what can be done later. Chances are there's a lot we can currently do if we allocate the necessary time to do so. If we finish studying or work early we can use that time to do other things that can improve our overall happiness.

Building New Habits

If there's any long-term benefit in doing things outside of the routine is that it allows us to build new habits. Let's say there's a sport you really enjoy but have mainly only thought about doing it. The reason we might not have done it yet could be because of our current routine. When we're able to analyze and see how well our routine is working, we can mold it into something that better suits what we want. In this case, it would be taking time to do the sport we want. The only way to do this is to readjust our routine to do this new thing in our free time. With enough effort the thing that was originally outside of our routine became part of the process and in turn, our new habit.
