Emotions And Empowerment

Emotions And Empowerment

Our emotions can be one of our greatest motivators as a student. They can affect us in many different ways and it is good to be mindful of them. Today we want to take some time to discuss emotions and empowerment.

Understanding Our Emotions

When it comes to empowerment, an essential part of this involves understanding how our emotions play a role in it. Our emotions are a reflection of our own internal thoughts and moods in relation to a combination of factors. Several common ones that contribute to our emotions involve eating and sleeping. If we're hungry we may find ourselves in fight or flight mode since we're too focused on fulfilling our basic needs. The same can apply to sleep as we may be less receptive when we're tired. In order to focus on our emotions, we need to start by taking care of ourselves first. Finding out what affects us first is a good means of seeing how we respond to different situations.

Finding The Right Response

Constructively using our emotions to empower us is another thing to consider. More often than not, we may find ourselves either frustrated or upset depending on our performance in school. While it may be tempting to let these things get to us, there are many ways to handle this. Rather than letting our performance affect us, we can channel our energy into putting in the time to practice or study more for example. We can practice mindfulness when we are taking a test so we can take a deep breath if we are anxious. Anger, for example, can be a common response to not performing up to our expectations. While this isn't necessarily bad, there are better ways to respond by using that as motivation instead.

Taking us Out of Our Comfort Zone

We also need to be aware of how we handle certain things that may be out of our comfort zone. This is crucial when it comes to empowerment as our emotions may fluctuate depending on our exposure to different situations. If we feel nervous in certain classes such as physical education, we can analyze how we feel in the moment. Doing physical activity outside of class may help us feel more confident when we do the same sport in school. Little things such as positive affirmations and self-confidence can go a long way for empowerment as this can translate to better productivity. Ideally, we want to be gentle with how we handle change but also welcome it with open arms as we need it to develop both ourselves and our emotional intelligence.

Our emotions can be complicated as there are many different things that go along with them. They teach us that each moment is worth appreciating while also showing us how to improve. Finding the right balance between what we're comfortable with and being able to try new things is crucial for empowerment. Remember that your emotions are your own and there is value to them.
