3 Ways to Focus on Positivity

A positive mindset can shape the way you look at life and the world around you. While it’s easy to see things in a negative, it is much harder to think positively and see the good in the bad. Here are three tips to help shift your perspective so you can focus on positivity rather than negativity.

Practice Gratitude

We all have a lot to be grateful for. Making an active effort to think of everything you are thankful for can help your mindset. Sometimes we may act on those feelings of gratitude. One example of this of this would be sending your friends a message telling them that you appreciate them. Internalizing these good feelings is also viable for those who are more introspective. You can also keep a gratitude journal where you write down the things you're thankful for; this is proven to improve optimism and give a sense of well-being.

Start Every Day on a Positive Note

One good way to change your perspective is to practice positivity on a daily basis. Start each day on a good note and create an uplifting morning routine. Engage in positive self-talk and affirmations to help sustain this mindset. Tell yourself that it is going to be a great day and that you can accomplish anything you set out to do that day. Positive affirmations like these are a good start to your day. Listening to some happy music while you do your morning routine can help out your mood as well.

Redirect Your Thoughts

Negative thoughts can be intrusive and hard to get rid of, but not impossible. Whenever you see your mind wandering to negative thoughts, stop yourself and redirect your thoughts. If you’re finding it hard to shift your mind away from these pessimistic things, take a minute to write down exactly what you’re feeling. Once you take a minute to slow down your thoughts and articulate them, it becomes easier to evaluate how rational they are. Allow yourself to take a step back from the situation and rationalize what you are thinking. If you’re having trouble doing that, confide in someone you trust and ask for their opinion; they will often help you think objectively and rationally.

Remember that a positive mindset can make all the difference in your life. Learn to focus on the good and the negativity won’t affect you as much.
