Finding Happiness With What You Have

In our busy world, it can be tempting to want to always pursue the next big thing. This can be a school or career goal that we’ve been looking forward to for a while. It could even be an opportunity for something else that’s out there. While it’s good to have ambition, we must be mindful of what we have available. Today we want to look for the happiness we already have in our lives.

Our Homes

One common thing that we may fall into is something known as lifestyle creep. This is similar to materialism in that as we gain more things, we slowly desire a higher quality of what we have. While this is fine in moderation, if left unchecked it can be unhealthy. Our home is a great example of this since sometimes we may feel like we want something more expansive. A larger home doesn't always equal more happiness. It’s good to remember that our house is our shelter first and foremost and we need to be grateful for this. Safety is something our home provides us with since it offers a place to rest our heads after a long school day. Everyone deserves a place that feels comfortable and home is where our mind and body feel at peace.

Our Education

Education is one of the most important things we have. It gives us the means of learning more about the world around us while also meeting people with similar interests. Higher education is something that provides many tangible benefits as well. It can help us experience many different cultures and see new perspectives. It gives us a more rounded view of the world which can build empathy. All of these things aren’t exclusive to expensive colleges either. Students should be encouraged to follow the educational path that they can afford and are comfortable with. Enjoying the education we do have is crucial since it helps us recognize the value in learning which translates into many other areas in our lives.

Our Relationships

Recognizing the positive aspects of our relationships is important since it demonstrates that we care about the people in our lives. Sometimes we may have the thought that we’d be happier in a different circle. While there are cases where those feelings are justified, we do need to be forgiving with people. Nobody is perfect and nor should we put those expectations on others. It’s good to remember that when we’re with people, we’re giving them our time and vice versa. Time is one of our most valuable resources and the act of being with people shows that both sides care. Our relationships empower us in many different ways. Some help us practice awareness while others help emphasize our other positive qualities. Appreciating the people that are in our lives now gives us the ability to see the good in others while also being more accepting.
