Treating Yourself

Rewarding yourself is a good habit to foster since it helps demonstrate self-care. Many of us may find ourselves putting in a lot of effort into the things we want to accomplish and while it is satisfying, we need to also give ourselves a treat every now and then. Today we want to talk about how the act of treating yourself is worth your time.

Rewards And Motivation

When it comes to motivation there are two different types of it. Intrinsic motivation is found when the act of doing something and the positive feelings associated with it come from within. It's a sort of self-sustaining method of being able to continue doing the things you do because it relies on your own willpower. Extrinsic motivation relies on rewards outside of ourselves to accomplish a task. Both of these serve their own purposes and having a blend of both is good because it recognizes the value of each. Treating yourself to an activity that makes you happy to be there is beneficial because it gives you a deeper appreciation for everything that you do. Giving yourself an external reward such as buying your favorite food is another great way to demonstrate that you value all the time you put into your craft. Finding the right balance between these can keep you centered on your goals while still taking care of yourself.

Self-Care

Self-care is another great reason to treat yourself. Too often do we find ourselves having very high expectations of what we want to do while not considering how these things can affect us. While ambition is good, having realistic goals is equally as helpful. Sometimes though, we do want to continue with these harder goals which is okay. Knowing how to do these can feel challenging but one consistent way to help with this is by rewarding yourself for each milestone. Something as simple as taking a break after finishing a rigorous study session demonstrates that you value your mental health. We can even take this a step further by getting ourselves a new book as a reward for all the effort we put into something. Self-care requires an active understanding of how exactly we feel in a situation while being able to act accordingly.

It Provides Happiness

The last major way that treating yourself is important is that it can provide happiness. There's a simple joy that comes from rewarding yourself after doing something difficult that is hard to match. It acts as a sort of proof of your hard work and is a reminder of everything you've done up to this point. Treating yourself is a sign that you care about who you are and want to continue putting your best foot forward. Rewards can be a good way to keep the feeling of happiness within your life and can complement the positive feelings of effort as well. Like most things in life, a healthy balance of rewards is good since when done right, it can sustain your happiness.
